This is the live action adaptation of ‘Madagascar’ right? If nothing else, Ang Lee is showing a mastery of color and imagery, while the sweeping music and cutting structure try to match but seem a bit overwrought. In modern terms, the film might glean comparisons to ‘Castaway’ or ‘127 Hours’, the difference being this doesn’t have the benefit of a marketable star. Will audiences be motivated by its visuals and source material alone?
